Summer Notes: Thursday, July 10, 2008

Thursday Notes on Friday

July 11, 2008

Dear Families,

I hope your summer is going well – that you are staying cool and out of sudden puddles caused by our ‘spring like rains’. My vacation was extended to appearances at court yesterday. The judge in Cleveland County is hearing all of the story – as our witnesses began yesterday. Due to cross examinations back and forth – we only were able to get three on the stand so its continued until next Monday at 1:30 p.m. Please keep us in your prayers. Our opponent’s lawyer continues to focus on the ‘kennel for show dogs’ even though he only has two show dogs and the rest he’s breeding for sale and ignoring the fact that 25 is too much next to a school. Our expert witness yesterday testified that of all the dog bites in the year 2006-07 – 66% were from the pit bull breed. She also stated that neither his fence or ours are sufficient to keep a dog out.

Today, we welcomed Mr. Hu, one of our parents who came to talk about his native country of China to our Kindergarten through Fifth graders. We appreciate so much our parents taking time for sharing the wealth of their experience and talents.

Mark your calendars – Family Night is Thursday July 24. Bring a friend. We will also invite our regular teachers to come and celebrate as well as new families coming to Villa Teresa in the fall.  Keep an eye out for the next Sooner Catholic our coverage of the 75th anniversary kick-off will be featured.

Please check your calendar and menu for next week’s lunches. See you Monday!

IMMERSED IN CHRIST (Fifteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time – We are called to Nurture Seeds with “Steadfast Love”)

INVENTORY: Have you ever wondered why God’s words seem to have such a small effect on people? Why after two thousand years of Christianity, is there still so much injustice and violence in the world? Where is the “reign of God”?

INPUT: Our belief that the Father’s “light of truth guides us to the way of Christ.” This way leads through “a world filled with lights contrary to your own.” And so we ask that “all who follow him may reject what is contrary to the Gospel,” so that “your love may make us what you have called us to be.”

Scripture:  Isaiah 55:10-11; Romans 8:18-23; Matthew 13: 1-23

INSIGHT: Do I believe things will change if people take God’s word seriously? Will I do it?

INITIATIVE: By word and, above all, by example, encourage people to reflect seriously on God’s word every day, responding with choices.
