Summer Thursday Notes

June 26, 2008

Dear Families,

Thanks to all who helped with our 75th Anniversary Kick-off. We had wonderful volunteers who stepped up to the plate when others became sick or had sudden obligations take precedence. The bagpipers were super! And lots and lots of people enjoyed the bouncy toys. We actually ran out of hot dogs and hamburgers (until I found a half bag in the back – I hadn’t eaten yet!), so we know at least we had 400. It was a great celebration where families we hadn’t seen in twenty or more years combined with new families coming in and were able to meet and share the good news about Villa Teresa School.

Next week we have only day care – although our traditional 4th of July parade will take place on Thursday, July 3. The children can bring board games so they are able to interact with each other in a positive way. Please make sure games, swimsuits, and towels have names in them in case they are left on playground.

Our Gospel value this past school year and we extend it to our summer months is gratitude. Please make sure your little one knows how he or she can show their appreciation for all they receive each day. In the morning when we gather for prayer, we use several ways to speak to God. One form is thanksgiving. See what your child is grateful for and get them to talk about what inspires the spirit of gratitude. During prayer time, children share about the needs of others. It is good when they can realize that there are others who are less fortunate and need our prayers.

Immersed in Christ (This Sunday is the Solemnity of Sts Peter and Paul – These reflections are for the thirteenth Sunday in ordinary time).

INPUT: These readings help alert us to recognize God’s truth and love shared with us through the service, the ministry, of people he has united with himself. They invite us to become one with Christ ourselves so that by expressing physically in words and actions his invisible life within us, we make our bodies the medium to communicate his divine life to others.

Scripture: 2 Kings 4:8-16; Romans 6:3-11; Matthew 10:37-42

INSIGHT: What can I do that will make me more able to minister as Christ?

INITIATIVE:  Pray constantly, “Lord, do this with me, do this in me, do this through me.”
